Have you ever found yourself waiting for something against all odds? That's been our reality for the past 15 years. Ever since our marriage nearly 15 years ago, my husband and I have been dreaming of owning a home together. Despite the long and challenging journey, our faith in God's timing keeps us hopeful.
Our dream of homeownership is deeply rooted in our faith, akin to the Abrahamic blessing described in Genesis 12:1-4. Just as Abraham patiently waited for God's promise to be fulfilled, we've held onto our dream through the years. For us, this dream encompasses more than just owning any house; it's about having a beautiful single-family home with a dedicated guest suite and playroom for our daughter 'Bear', in a desirable neighborhood with top schools.
However, our path to homeownership has been anything but straightforward. We've encountered numerous obstacles, with homelessness being the most challenging. It was difficult to understand why God allowed this to happen, especially after trusting Him for so long. Yet, in our waiting, we've learned valuable lessons about complete reliance on God's guidance.
Throughout the years, we've faced setbacks, including losing Adrian's house to foreclosure during the 2011 housing crisis, which led to homelessness. Rebuilding our lives proved to be an uphill battle, particularly due to financial struggles and credit setbacks resulting from co-signed student loans. Despite our efforts to improve our chances by attending homebuyer classes and applying for grants, obstacles persisted. High student loan balances and fluctuating interest rates continued to hinder our progress toward homeownership.
In 2024, we're still waiting for our miracle—the day we finally become homeowners. We trust that God's timing is perfect and that our patience will ultimately lead to blessings, as promised in Isaiah 30:18. We wanted to write this post BEFORE our housing blessing because we wanted to be genuine and transparent with what we have been believing God for. It would have been easy for us to write this post after we received our house, but we believe our testimony is more powerful if you know where we were before the breakthrough. As we persevere in faith, we're grateful for the lessons learned and remain hopeful for the day our dream home becomes a reality. As our journey continues, we invite you to join us and root us on as we patiently await our Abrahamic blessing to unfold.
